I have a SH stge II down because pistons were stuck. Can you force new oil thru system before the pan and head are re-installed? It had sit a long time and I want to be sure oil is on the mains. The rods had a good coat when they were removed. Thanks, Randy

Just make sure you remove the filter and pour some oil down the center this will prime the pump. When it fires up just check the gauge and to make sure you have pressure within a 3-5 seconds. I had taken apart a H that i got in Feb had not been run in over a decade and there was still plently of oil everywhere.

Sure, remove the oil pressure block fitting, and pump oil into the gallery with a pump oil can and a piece of rubber hose that will connect them. Pump until the pump lever feels hard to pump. Thus full. Jim

I built a pre-lube system out of an empty freon container, although anything airtight that will hold 2-3 quarts will work. put a 1/8NPT valve on the bottom & an air hose fitting on top. Run a hose from the valve to the gage port on the engine, put air in the tank to about 15psi and open the valve. Oil will flow thru all the oil galleries, bearings, etc. to lube it before starting. Takes longer to describe than to make it.

The way Paul described is the way we did it at work.
We had a heavy duty container containing engine oil and we used air to force oil throughout the engine until pressure was showing on the pressure gauge. When I rebuilt a Chevy Citation engine it had an idler gear to drive the distributor gear off the camshaft. I pulled the idler gear and used a drill motor to drive the oil pump. Hal
