Farmall seat

I recently bought a 47 model Farmall H and it has the shock absorber seat. Don't think that is original, so just when did those seats become standard equipment on Farmalls? Thanks , Joe

Aftermarket monroe seat, pretty common on the H's and M's. It would have been a pipe style seat from factory. Seats really didnt change much until the Super series.

IH did not make those seats, but they were installed at the factory by 1947 and probably earlier.

I think that by 1947 the Monroe seat was a factory option, so it is entirely possible it is original to the tractor. If you spend a LOT of time on that tractor, you do not want the older, pipe frame style.

You've got the early version of the Monroe seat. My 1940 H and 1940 M both have that early version, and I've seen a few earlier John Deeres with that same seat.

IRRC the Monroe type seats with the shock in front of the seat started coming on new H and M tractors about 1948, Before that the replacement type seat with the shock in back was available as an after market replacement. Either seat is much better than the old original type bent pipe support seat.
