Just got a super H for my son and I to restore. The Id tag is gone. The IH dealer says its a super h from the casting numbers on the block. Thats all they can help me with. Has power steering, overdrive, and live hydrolics. How can I find out for shure? Found some numbers near the breather and on the lower bellhousing. Can I have a new Id tag made somewhere so everything is correct

Replica ID tags are available. The Serial number is also stamped on the block i believe. The fact that it has live hydraulics can be a help. If the battery is under the seat and it has a hydraulic tank under the gas tank chances are it may be a true Super H. However that being said the tractor is 60+ years old and may have been changed how many times over the years. Pictures may also help although they can look identical (I just like to look at tractors so I like pictures).

Tags can be ordered for replacement from several sites.
There are casting dates on major components in the form shown below in the link. THe engine number is probably close but not identical to the tractor #. The engine # is near the front top of the block near #1 plug. Cleaning might be needed, they are stamped into the casting. Jim

Any known differences between 1953 and 1954. There is not a hydrolic lift lever on the hydrolic resuvour on left side on this tractor. Will post pics of this tractor tommorow. Thanks

Stage one (I) tractors didn't have live hydraulics. They had the standard belly pump. Stage ones were made in late 52 and all of 53. In 54 they went to a stage 2 super H. That is when the hydraulic pump is by the distributor and the battery is under the seat. I'll post a picture of my stage 2 super m and my 44 h to show you the difference.

Here is my Super M. You can look at the distributor side and see the pump differences also where the battery is located. Excuse the last photo as its not mine but shows you the standard set up before live hydraulics.

The Super H was not introduced until late 1953. The stage 2 came out in 1954. The regular H was still being produced in 1953.

Look at the brake drum on the picture provided by Fullers Farmalls.

If your brake drum looks like that, a heavy casting with a button (or hole) in the middle, you have a Super H.

If the brake drum looks like a stamped sheet metal pan with a lever sticking out of the side and a large spring, you have a regular H.

Does it have 2 large and two small holes in the grill? Are there ertical holes in the front corners of the bolster for cultivator pins?

Stage 2 Super H's began production in late 1953. I have one, all castings are Y's. Many people think stage 2's were only made in 54, that is a rumor.

Ahh thats right. I have heard that but forgot. My Super is a 53. I assume the Stage two supers M & H switched at around the same time. Thanks for the correction

Thanks everybody for the great replies. Heres some pics of the super H. I think its a 1954, the casting numbers in different places on the teractor end in a z. Can I get a new serial# tag made out for it. If so where? Also we are selling at auction 3 more Hs In the 40,41 range. Will any of the parts fit the super H? Looks like the drawbar will. Thanks, Dennis

That is definitely a "Stage II" Super H.

The battery box under the seat tends to rust out after 50 years or so... I've seen a lot of "fixes" but never a Super C seat base.

Looks like the front bolster was changed at some point. It`s supposed to have the bolster with the cultivator mounting pins at the corners.

Get the engine serial number stamped in, off the raised area on the block below the 3rd spark plug back from the front. Fellow that goes by pat h. posts sometimes and keeps track of SH serial numbers. He may be able to tell what the tractor serial was or real close if the engine is original.

Ugh, not the gem you hope for but it must have been a nice machine in the day. You can't even say you are buying it for the serial number. I bet he thought he ruled the world with live hydraulics and power steering on his loader tractor!

With respect, it has the battery under the seat, and live hydraulics with the correct reservoir, though farmerized in places, it looks stageII to me. Jim

Does anybodey know if any main parts besides the engine from a 1940 or 41 H will fit a 54 super H? Have 3 at the Action next week. would be nice to know. Thanks

Pretty much anything will work.

if you can get me the serial number of the motor block that is stamped into the raised "platform" below # 3 spark plug I should be able to figure your serial number out - at least very close. it might be a few days - trying to get corn planted - just not having much luck.
