Wasn't meant to be I guess

Knew of an M that was sitting for probably 20 years. It was about 10 miles from home. Talked to the guys cousin. Just want scrap price. Plus had a set of weights. So $700 and it was mine once I finally got home from school. Find out today the guy got an offer of a $1000. Can't blame him for making an extra $300 but woulda liked to finally own my first straight M. Granted it woulda been some work but I wanted to see if I could get it running and if not part it out. O well wasn't meant to be. Done being a Debby Downer.

may have been for the best. You would get it home and then have to make it run, to see if you could. Then a lot of money down the road and you would have to make it run and look better. A good one will come along for you I am sure. Lots of them out there

Sorry to read about your dream falling shy . I've learned by reading others similar situations that when you do go to make such a deal , take paper/pencil to write up the agreement & cash to close the deal on the spot with signatures .Plus taking a trailer of sort or a chain to haul it away immediately . Late , but maybe helpful next time . God bless, Ken

I like to see if I can get them to run again also. My neighbors, Father's tractor, Has a stuck engine. It is a 1/4 mile away, but it might as well be in Africa. My neighbor has some very rare form of cancer and may only have 5 more years left. I would like to get it running for him, but he has more important things to deal with than what I want to do.

I know how you feel, can't count the number of "deals" I could have had if I could have come up with the cash/time to get 'em when they were offered to me...but like the title to your post says, it just wasn't meant to be. Lots of times I've found an even better deal later on...they're out there, ya just gotta keep looking!

Can' blame you for kicking yourself, but more power to him if he wants to buy a nonrunning M for $1000. I bet the tires were junk, too.

There are Ms being bought and sold every day.(Just like 8 N Fords)

There will be another one in your future.I am sure of that . ;)

Couple of years ago I went to look at a WC Allis that was down the road that I had my eye on for a while. After getting a good look at the WC, it was not as nice as I was hoping. In leaving, the owner had purchased a 1945 AV that was still on his trailer. Made a deal for the AV instead and couldn't have worked out better. As the guys said, things have a way of working out, you just never know when. That is one of the small fun parts of life. Allan.

I had that happen to me on a Massey 44 this last winter. I had it happen once on a Farmall A where I had sent the guy a check and he sent it back.

Money talks, bullsh*t walks. Wouldn't surprise me a scrapper came along and bought it. My uncle just unloaded a ton of scrap mach
inery a few weeks ago. A scrapper came along asked if my uncle wanted cleaned it up.
