IH 340 utility dieing

My 340 utility will run great and idle forever util I put a load on it. It will "work" with the power I expect for about 10 minutes and then just die. Wait a minute, starts right up and does the same thing. This is only when working it. It has an electronic ignition but I don't think that's it. I do have a leaky head gasket. Could that play a role?

Electronic ignition? Does it still use a coil? When it dies have you checked fuel flow? Run it until it dies Immediately get off it and pull the fuel line and see what your fuel flow is like. At the same time grab a hold of the coil and see if it's warm. Go to the Ford N board and search for 50 tips, it's pretty good and a lot of what they recommend works well on your Farmall. When it dies does it sputter out or just quit? If when it starts to die what happens if you pull the choke out? How lang does it have to sit before it starts again?

My 300 did that for a while. It would die like someone turned off the key. Ussually when I was working it on a warm day. The coil would quit when it got to hot.

Run it till it dies then jump off and check your spark it needs to be a blue white in color and jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Could be a part heating up and shorting out. Also when it dies pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas for a few minute. Catch the gas so as to make sure it is not full of dirt or rust or water.
