Regular fan belt

I have posted a message before about the leather strap around the crankshaft pulley on my 1928 regular wondering if the strap was on there because the fan belt was to long. Does anyone know the correct length it should be? The one on my tractor is 47" and I think its to long. Does anyone know if these belts can be shortened and sewn together? Thanks, Mark.

Actually, that was the belt, flat leather strap. I believe that the material changed later on the F-20"s and somewhere I gathered it eventually went to v belts. The latter is pure hearsay, don"t know where I heard it to be honest.

Mine has a flat leather belt on it. I just bought a piece of leather or rather had it cut to size, width and thickness and lenght. I put it together with alligator lacing clips. You can keep it soft and pliable by using neatsfoot oil on it occasionally.

Mark, I had this issue with a belt that was the wrong size. Regular is smaller than F-20 belt by about 2" also differernt part #. I do have the # written down somewhere. I think 44 1/2" or 46 3/4". As for the leather on your crank pully could it be the pully is cracked or chipped and they put leather around it to hold it together? Should not be there.
