Planting Depth on 251 Planter

I know I have to remove the pin and let the Fast Hitch float on the Super C, but how do I adjust the planting depth on this 2 row Fast Hitch Model 251 Planter? With the shoes?? Or is there anything else. I"m afraid I"m planting my sunflowers too deep...Thanks, Cmore

I set my C251, mounted on the tractor, on a level concrete surface.

Make sure the runners are level. I had to hook up the rod from the fast hitch to the touch control. This is the one on the right side of the tractor that controls front to back pitch.

Per operators manual. Wheels on the tractor should be set so that they DO NOT run in the same track as on the last pass. That puts the tractor off level. I have mine set all the way in.

They're are 2 adjusting wheels on the planter, shown in 1st picture. Tighten those up till there is no slack. Set the lock wing nut so nothing moves.

That sets the depth to however much the tractor settles in the freshly tilled dirt. If that's still too deep loosen the wing nuts and tighten them up a little till you get the proper depth. Some trial and error in all of this,

I set a 1x4" under the runners, again on level concrete, This gets the runners 3/4" off the concrete with the planter down. This is about the right depth for my soil.

Operators manual is available from binders books.

Thanks so much...I have never screwed with the "Adjustment Wheels"..or whatever they are called. Maybe that's my problem..I'll be down at the farm on Monday to plant, and will check this out...Cmore
