I"ve got what seems to be a common problem with my loboy 184 being a sloppy shifter. After looking at it in order to remove the top of the trans i have to remove the rear wheels, fenders then the be able to remove the top cover. Is this right or can i gain enough access through the plate on the back to get the trans top out ? nThanks for all your help.what a great site ! larry

You've asked this question twice now and it appears that nobody seems to know the answer.

Part of the fun of this tractor thing is working through things like this. You've got nothing to lose by trying what you believe to be the easy route first.

Take the shifter loose and see if it will come out. If not, then you'll have to pull the fenders and sheet metal over the transmission...

One way or another the shifter has to come out of the tractor to be fixed.

Straight forward. Remove the seat and tool box assembly (4 bolts). Remove the rear sheet metal panel, if you have it. Remove the fenders and center sheet metal as a unit.
No you can not gain access through the rear cover.

Just try taking it apart , take off anything in your way if the pile of parts gets to big than do a complete restoration while you have it apart.

I hate to be this way, but if you can't figure out somthing as simple as getting a shift lever out of a Cub. You maybe shouldn't go any farther.
