Plow hook-ups

I have a Super C and am looking at two-bottom (14") plows to pull behind it using the drawbar. I don"t have a fast-hitch. Will most plows hookup to a drawbar as long as it is not a 3pt. or fast hitch? It looks like some of the Deere/Moline/Allis, etc. plows have a different clevis-type connection and I really don"t want to waste gas going to look at something that won"t work. Any thoughts...?

Trailer plows may use one of several styles of clevis on the hitch. Ultimately, they all attach to a standard drawbar either with a pin or a bolt or two.

Your bigger problem will be pulling 2-14s with a Super C. OK in easy plowing, but . . .

Any pull type (wheeled) plow will work. Some require a straight clevis, some twisted. All plow hitches are adjustable for tractor width and height. But, fair warning, lots of hitches fave been modified and parts may be missing. If in doubt post some pics and somebody will help you.

2-14s behind a super C? Farmall H's usually pulled 2-14's. I think you might have a little to much plow for a Super C. I don't think they really rated that size tractor for 2-14s until they got into the number series.

There is very little difference between the Super C, 200, and 230 in weight or power.

2-14's in a trailer plow is ambitious for any of these tractors unless the going is really good. You'll probably want a LOT of weight and you'll be stuck in 1st gear, but if you aren't plowing 50 acres you won't have any issues.

Trailer plows pull harder than mounted plows. Plus mounted plows have down draft that enhances traction, where it's all done with brute force on a trailer plow.

My super C will plow, 2nd gear, with a 2-14" C20 fast hitch plow in ground that was turned the year before. It really struggles with new ground in 1st and does an ugly job.

I do have a little genious 2-14 #8 trailer plow that the SC will pull in previously turned ground in 1st gear but struggles.

I have a 53SH that handles the #8 really well. It has a new motor with 3 9/16th domed pistons so it's got good power.

As far as hook up I use a twisted clevis pinned in the braw bar. The JD and IH plows that I have had use a break away hook the drops into the clevis.

There is a mounted plow especially for the SC without fast hitch. That is the best set up. The plows are usually two 14's mounted directly to the axles with brackets. You will get mixed response about power needed to pull the plows. In heavy clay or Midwestern silt loam it may load the SC down in first or second gear. In the deep south coastal plain we had a sandy loam soil and we pulled two mounted 14's in third gear with both a C and a 200 (and a Jubilee and 640 Ford).

I have a SC that has been re-sleeved to 3 1/4. It pulls a #8 Little Genius 3-14's, 5-7 inches deep. 1st gear in silty clay, 2nd gear in silty clay loam, and 3rd gear in loam/silt loam. There are two rear wheel weights/rim and the tires are 60% full of beat juice.

Yes, there is a mounted plow for the C/Super C without fast hitch, but they are just about impossible to find, complete, in usable condition.

On the rare occasion you do come across one, it is always missing one or more crucial pieces for the mounting brackets. Either they went with the tractor when it got sold, or they got mixed in the scrap pile in the tool shed.

If you do find one that's complete, jump on it. They are true collector's items.
