IH 1066 w/intermittent steering

In addition to my 560 with a fasthitch issue, mentioned in yesterday's post, I also have a new-to-me 1066 with part-time steering. When the power steering doesn't work, you don't have manual steering either... I think there are likely to be multiple problems here. Engine rpm's seems to have no impact on whether or not the power steering cuts out, or re-engages.
This tractor has seen little use in the last ten years, and no use in the last two or so. I did change the transmission filter but not the fluid. The hy tran fluid looked a lot like Nestle's Quik... In addition, this tractor does not have all its parts for a three point hitch. I am considering trying to find a fasthitch for it, as that is what I am used to on my 560s. Any ideas or comments would be welcome!

HY TRAN is made to hold moisture so that when you drain it the moisture is carried out with it. You need to know how things work to diagnose. the i.p.t.o. drive train powers the mcv pump, hitch pump,& p.t.o. pump. The mcv unit supplies oil to steering, brakes,t.a.functions,& lube in that order of priority. the details of checking that valve are in the service manual.

Change the Hytran and add 5 gallons more than full. this covers a possible Oring failure and hurts nothing. If it does not help. at least you have the good fluid. Working the tractor after the change will heat the remaining H2O out of it. Best of luck. Jim
