Bought a 52 SC with a mounted plow today

Got this at auction with the plan being to part it out, total cost was about $870 by the time I got it trucked home on a rollback. The engine is loose and it appears to be complete except for the carburetor which is missing. I have not seen a mounted plow quite like this before and I am wondering if it is worth anything or just scrap value. I do not plow myself and I know next to nothing about plows or how to determine the condition. The tractor had been sitting in a shed buried and surrounded in garbage for many years. To get it out I had to move a pile of stuff as wide as the tractor, maybe fifteen feet long and five feet deep on average. Fortunately the rollback man was able to come right away, I wouldn't have wanted to leave it there once I had bought it.

Looks like Plow Chief bottoms that are pretty worn out. If your going to part out that plow I'd like to have that pair of extensions that are bolted to the back of the moldboards. I have Zenith carb off of a SC that I would swap.

I have mounted planters, cultivators, busters, and WAS looking for a plow. BUT when I figured out what a PIA it is to change out mounted implements I went to fast hitch equipment. Much easier to change operations with fast hitch.

When I was looking I found a few mounted plows but never on the tractor and the mounting brackets where missing. I suspect the hardware to mount will be worth more that the plows to the right folks. I'd try to sell the whole plow locally 1st and if it doesn't sell then part it out and scrap the rest.

The plow moldboards ar pretty much toast, but I like the tractor. With the rubber on it and a loose engine getting it running could be easy. Looks too good to part out. Jim

I kind of thought that too, about it being too good to part out. Right now I need another project like I need a hole in my head, but I will see about getting a carburetor for it and see what I can do.

I'm sorry, I'm not up on my plow terminology. Is the extension the wing shaped part that is bolted to the back of each bottom? I'd be happy to trade them for your carb since that would give me a chance to see if I can get it running without getting further over my head on it. Can you give me an idea of what I should ask for the whole rest of the plow (besides the extensions) locally, or for the mounting parts? I have no knowledge of plows at all other than what I see at auctions and that has never included mounted ones before. Thank you very much.
Zach

Yes, They are extensions of the moldboard, on top, that help turn sod over. They are the rectangular pieces with a slight twist in them. They have 1 hole and one crescent shape slot for adjustment.

Shoot me an e-mail with your mailing address and I'll get the carb in the mail on Monday.

I'd ask $250 and emphasize that they are complete with mounting brackets. The ones I looked at around Houston the guys where asking up to $500 without the brackets. I didn't buy any and I'll bet they still have them.

I did pay $400, when the economy was hot, for a C20 fast hitch plow in very good shape.

I recently acquired another C20, in good shape, with a tractor and have it advertised at $350, with no takers yet, for several months. I attribute this to the down economy.

Thank you very much for the advice, I will get the plow off and put it up for sale locally and will get the extensions packed today and mailed tomorrow. I'll send an email with my address and if you can reply with your address that would be great.

Don't "part" the tractor. Super C's are one of the best older tractors ever.

That's just in too good shape to part out.

I wouldn't part it out. It looks to have been sheltered all its life and has good rubbber. Get it running and you can probably double your money. Hal

Yes, I will work on it this week. I agree that it is too nice to part. It looks a lot better after riding on the rollback and blowing off all of the dust and filth. The paint is actually better than any other tractor I have by far. The gas tank is squeaky clean inside, which I couldn't tell while it was in the shed since it was too dark and I was too dumb to bring a flashlight.
Zach

Those are the first moldboard extensions I have ever seen actually bolted on. I have three sets of C/Super C plows, and all of them were welded when I got them, and most of them were pieces of truck spring, rather than actual OEM parts.

Here is the photo from the auction listing, I didn't realize how well it would clean up till I got it home.

That tractor looks twice as good as mine when I bought it. A fast hitch would be a big plus but when you get that running it will be your favorite.

Zach I went down after I read what you posted and the the guy that bought the room was there. I looked and asked, but the carb was not around. It is probably somewhere in that barn.

When they started on the middle room the found a 2 bottom fast hitch plow and a tow behind sickle bar mower under the garbage.

BTW I am still kicking myself for not going higher on the fast hitch mower. I probably will not find another one, especially so close. I know the guy that bought it and he does not have a 200 and is going to try to make it work on his other fast hitch tractor. I am hoping he can't

I'm kicking myself for not realizing what those two smaller belt
pulleys were, I could have bought them for $5. Now that I have
looked at the SC I can see where one of them would have fit on the
shaft there. Oh well. Good luck with the mower, it can be hard to
decide in the moment at auctions sometimes. Did the plow and
mower in the barn get auctioned separately or did they go with the
room? I got an offer to swap the moldboard extensions off the
plow for a carb so I hope to have one soon and try to get the tractor
running.
Zach

Yea, that's the thing about auctions, it's spur of the moment.
We have a brand new tractor on order so in the back of my head I was thinking " save the money for a 3 pt one"
The plow was bought separately, BUT the guy thought it was a 3 pt plow. I think my dad got his #. We have the same 2 bottom plow here so we don't really need it.

BTW if you ever need help on any big projects and cannot dig anyone up to help, give me a shout. Your not that far away.

I forgot is the operators manual you got missing the front page????
I bought a stack of original manuals and there is a cover for a SC in it. It is missing a chunk off the corner. If you want it PM me your address and I will mail it up to you

Thank you very much for thinking of it. The manual I got has the
covers loose and the inside front page that was supposed to have
delivery details or something like that is missing. If that's what it is
and you could mail it up that would be very kind. I'm on classic
view so I wasn't able to email you but my address is Zachary Hoyt,

Glad to see someone finally got those tractors out of there. I caught wind of that tractor being in ther about four years ago or so and drove up there from Jordan to look at it. The old man who lived in the house let me go in and look at it. Ive never been in a barn with so much junk in it! I made him an offer but I think he wanted like $1500+ at that time. Wasnt there and old IH combine in the main room of the barn and a H, 200, and 240 outside?

I will mail it up when I get a chance. It is what looks like a cover though.

Dave I live next door and had been trying to buy them for a few years. The 200 and the 340 were stolen about 3 weeks ago and are now in parts at the police impound. Zach bought the H last year or so.

I saw you had the plow advertised on Craigslist last night, and I was thinking to myself... Hmm, wonder what Zach dragged home this time?

Definitely DO NOT scrap that plow! Complete mounted implements like that are far and few between. Rare rare rare... Most of 'em got scrapped over the years and/or abandoned to rust away in fence rows with the important little pieces missing...

If you ever feel the irresistible urge to load it up and head down to Ben Weitzman's let me know and I'll come get it. I need another plow like I need another hole in my head, and I have nothing to mount it to, but I'm sure I'll eventually come across a bareback C that needs an implement. In the meantime I hope someone else who can make use of it snaps it up.

Thanks, I definitely won't scrap it, although I may end up parting it
out and scrapping the bottoms if it doesn't sell whole. I can't haul
it anywhere except by tractor, as I don't have a truck or a trailer. I
get all of my tractors hauled either by the buyer or seller or our
friendly local tow truck driver. He is very good at what he does and
it is nice to have someone with a big winch when you need one.
