38 F-20 mag

We are trying to get dad's 38 F-20 to run and today dad noticed the mag has no fire. The impulse clicks and the points look great. The cap is in good shape and clean. The only other thing I thought about is if it's grounded. He is going to make for sure it is tomorrow. We tried to compare the magnetism on the outside of the magnet with my 39 F-20 and it seemed like it is the same. Is there anything else we should look at? Thanks.

You could have a bad condenser or coil. Also check and see that brushs in cap are clean and the disc they pickup spark up from are clean.

Points "look" great? did you clean them? And you do know that full up on the aluminum cap over the points is stop and grounded?

The coil may be weak. Do the easy things first by rubbing the points with some 320 wet or dry til they're shiny. Install a new condenser as been suggested. Touch the magnets with a flat blade screwdriver. It should attract that screwdriver with a bit of effort. Hal
PS: If you have battery start you can convert your mag to a distributor by using the old points, condenser and an auto type coil.

We belted it up to our H and turned the motor over. If I touched the points with a screwdriver I could get it to spark. So I recleaned the points and readjusted them. Then we noticed the spark plug wires arcing without the spark plugs on them. We put in a good set of plugs and it fired right up. Hearing these old tractors start up for the first time in a very long time is a little addicting.
