Super AV steering play

Hi all! I'm looking at buying a super av but have some
concerns about the steering box. The steering wheel has A
LOT of play. The steering wheel needs to turn 180 degrees
before any reaction in the wheel direction. Is this something
that can be adjusted in the steering box or do I need
replacement parts or a whole new box? And if I do need parts
or a box what should I expect to pay and how hard are they to
come by? Are super av steering parts the same as an a or
super a? Any info provided is greatly appreciated!

Take the steering sector apart and replace seals, bushings, bearing and probably a new key on the gear then tierod ends. You need to also check the draglink on the output shaft.

you are probably looking at 1 or 2 days labor, plus about $100 parts, for rebuilding the steering sector and you need some lifting power, hoists etc.

No worry. I have done a few, with 180 degrees of play I would bet the big bearing at the top of the sector shaft is causing most of the slack. But you need to take it apart. It is best, in my opinion to take the whole bolster off the tractor. That way you can clean it up real well, and its just easier. Go to Case IH or Messicks online and see their parts books. You might as well figure getting the one gasket, two different seals, two different bearings, and two different bushings. as previously said near $100.00. I have an AV and a Super AV I cultivate with. Picture from the day they came home.

Thanks so much! Great Pic too! The AV I"m looking at has sentimental value. Its the first tractor I cultivated with and my step dad restored it 20 years ago. I just wanted an idea of what it might take. Thanks!****Richard
