Sediment bowl assembly leaks

I have a Farmall sediment bowl assembly that has the bent brass handle. It leaks around the handle when shut off. I tried tightening the nut but it did not work. Would like to replace packing with o-ring but can not get nut off due to bent handle. Any ideas? I realize the complete assembly can be replaced but really want to avoid unscewing an assembly that has been in the tank for 40 plus years.

Maybe loosen the nut and turn your shut off handle to the left and both the nut and handle will come out together. You can replace the packing which is probally only packing string.

Get the nut loose all the way and the handle will screw out then you can replace the packing cotton string will work for packing or an o-ring does also work. The packing goes on the handle side of the washer. Mite want to use some sand paper to get the seat part on the end refaced so it doesent have any grouves and then it will work just fine.

i read in a post a few months back and then tried in on our H and it worked good. It said to ad packing behind the nut using the yellow teflon tape as packing. take a piece of the tape and then roll up in a little long rope and with the nut removed wrap around behind nut and retighten. I tightened up so tight if woulnt move and then backed of a little worked great for me. The yellow teflon tape is considered "gas resistant"
