Seat time.

I got some seat time on both the M and the 1206 today raking and baling straw. Made me hate that darn old M even more!

LOL guys, as sson as I can afford a repalcement it's outta here. Wouldn't mind a 504 row crop or maybe step up to a 706/56 but those are spendy tractors here.

If it wasn't for the underslung exhaust on my Ford N I'd use that to rake the straw.

Nope can't do that. The N ain't heavy enough for the poo spreader and the 1206 is way overkill for it, so for now the M has to stay. But thanks for the generous :? :? :? offer to take it off my hands........ :lol: The N will pull the rake just fine but with as dry as we have been I gotta have something with a stack to rake straw with.......course now it's raining tonite .

I would disagree with that. I plowed a 7 acre field with one last year, cultivate garden, brush cut, rake hay, maintain the drive, finish mow about 4 acres, spray pasture, pull a trailer sometimes, dig post holes and more. The first part of last month I drove it 8 miles, mowed an acre for my MIL, drove it home, mounted the rear blade and drove it back to her place and moved about 7 YDS of class 5 prior to my FIL's funeral then drove it home, all on about 4 gallons of gas. The Super C has a weight advantage but is taller so working in the woods makes you duck more, isn't as nimble (WFE) and lacks the 3 point. I have 2 8N's (lazy and don't like changing implements 3-4 times a week), the 1206, M and a TLB. The N's get more run time than anything else followed by the TLB. My M is WFE and is clumsy, steers hard and at 6'5" the seat is too low. Now don't get me wrong. That M starts when I need it and runs well. I can leave it set for 6 months and it will fire right up. I don't use it enough to dump any real money into it like a decent seat or PS. 3 point would be nice too. In it's day the M was a great tractor....but that day was long ago.


Now on the down side of the 8N. brakes could be better, too fast in 1st and R and by the time the 8N came out you would have thought that Ford would have had a better idea and gone over to an OHV engine.

The up side of it is I can still buy new implements that will work on the N series. Brush hogs, finish mowers, PHD's, disk, cultivators, broadcast spreaders and much more. I can buy a towed sprayer and a manure spreader, hay rake and drag that will work behind a stock M. Guess you can use a haybine, offset not swing arm behind an M but why would you want to? I do all my baling with the 1206, both small squares and round plus it runs the haybine. So something with a 3 point, multiple remotes and PS would make a better tractor for what I'm doing.

id love the M too, my grandpa spent his whole life on one, after he gave up on horses in '47 or 8, and when my uncle took the place over in '68 i was still too young to acquire it,or the C,when they traded up to more hp in the early '70's guess my elders didnt take me serious yet, someday i want one to restore in his honor [ but i'll be using it too,] ran that M some as i got older, but mostly i was on his C,[ grandpa thought that M was too much tractor for a boy in his teens] the M was a 47 or 8, and the C was a '50 or '51, i cant remember now, i started on it when i was about 9, so my older cousin could help out on the bale wagon
