Model A oil pan nuts .... a question

I'm putting in a new pan gasket on a model A and took the pan off today. Pretty rigid pan with those extra struts along the edge to beef things up. There were no lockwashers when I disassembled things, are there supposed to be lockwashers in place? Maybe getting them to the locking position is too much torque for the gasket? Not sure but I want to make sure before I put things back together.

IH parts catalog shows lock washers and all I"ve taken off have had them. I"d sure "nuff put them back on. Don"t have to worry about them backing out on their own.

Just make sure you get the 4 long bolts back in the rite place so you dont ruin the seal bracket assy alsobith brackets where the pan fastens are alum and the threads can be easy stripped you dont need those bolts very tight as you will distort the pan and the gasket will leak.

definitely supposed to have lock washers.

That tractor's over 60 years old - don't trust what you see on it as "correct".

Somewhere along the line, somebody skimped. No super necessary to have them, but for a few bucks - why not.

yep, supposed to be there
even on engines where they are there,
they are usually broke or have lost their tension.
like Gene said, be gentle.
When you are used to a tractors BIG fasteners, those
little ones strip/break easily!
One of those jobs where my hand stays on the ratchet head only,
I never use the handle
