I have a 1945 Farmall BN I restored a number of years ago. I used a lot of your help both directly and indirectly (old messages) when I put it together. It"s an aweome runner, having bee outfitted with an Woods L306 mower.

Anyway, I"ve never got it to charge correctly. It either charges with what appears to be without regulation on the H setting, or not at all. I keep it on a battery tender, so it doesn"t much matter, but I"d love to get it working right, with the original 6V system.

BTW....a website about the work is linked.

Any interest in coming out to Honeoye Falls to make a house call. I"d provide beverages of choice, and I could probably get my wife to make you a hell of a dinner, or I coulfd just flat out pay you.

Let me know.

Steve

If it charges full in the H position, it is an indication that the resistor on the light switch is open. That should provide a sustainable 2 amp charge. An adjustable 80 watt power resistor from 2 to 10 ohms will allow adjustment as needed. Jim

I want it to be stock. I have a feeling that my tractors electrical system has been altered. It has a regulator, but it also has the four position switch. That's why I am hoping Bob can help me get it back to stock, or at least regulated.

Take Care,
Steve

The easiest thing to do is get a new cutout and Bob M's wiring diagram, and either start from scratch or verify what you have.

Hey Steve - Glad to help you get it sorted out! Just shoot an email to me at wrm(at)rochester(dot)rr(dot)com; we'll figure it from there.

It is not regulated, it is operator guestimated. After running in H position for 1/2 hour, the operator sets it to L so it maintains. Jim

First of all your BN did not come with a regulator. It came with a cut-out. What is the # on your generator and we can go from there. I have several with original gens and cut-outs and the four position sw. When your tractor had the cut-out replaced with a regulator depending on where the regulator came from it needed to be wired different from the original cut-out. I do have the original stuff to make it work like new. You cannot get a new cut-out as Delco Remy quit making them long ago.
