C farmall head gasket

I just put a new head gasket in my C. Started it up and watched it leak on the right side. Before I replaced it it would seep a little on the right side and and into the cylinders. Thinking just a bad gasket I replaced it, I had the head rebuilt 7-8 years ago. I torque the head to specs from my I T manual at 65 lbs. I am looking for possible causes and solutions

Later manuals call for 80 lbs of torque.

Did you use sealer on the head gasket?

Did you retorque the head (and reset the valves) after it runs a little and warms up?

All are important to seal the head.

if you did not check head for warpage with a straight edge that is the most possible cause. it may need to be resurfaced. 60 lbs. seems light on the torque also.

Could be a bad new head gasket of you could have a warped head or block or a sleeve maybe cracked or some other such problem. New spec for torque by the way is 80 or 85 ft/lbs I built my BA using only a used head gasket and aluminum paint and have not had any problems with it

Thanks for the input I,ll give that try at 80 lbs and see what happens cross your fingers. EJ

I had to retorque mine 6 times. The 5th time I bumped the torque up to 75. Checked the 6th time and the torque held. Mine too would seep in the middle on the right side. Before the gasket was replaced it leaked anti-freeze. After the middle of the right side a little oil. There is an oil and antifreeze channel very close to the edge of the block.

I live with my oil leak.

I also used copper spray.

If there is a next time, I'm going to get high temp RTV and give a small thin coat of silicone around all oil and anti freeze port.

I've seen this done and head gasket never leaked. Dealer replaced head gasket twice and it still leaked. Helped a guy. He used silicone, in the early 1970's. Lasted him for years.

I figure the worst can happen is I'll replace the head gasket again. They are not that expensive or hard to replace.

All good advice...I have had two that leaked at 60ftlbs because that"s what the early manual I had said...with copper gasket spray and the 80ftlbs stated in the later manuals I have never had a problem. Pete
