Tractor Parade accident

A friend of mine emailed me a copy of the Grand Island newspaper at work today. There was a gentlemen that was from Thayer,Ks. at the parade with his 5 John Deere tractors. He went to load one of them to leave on Sunday. The right rear tire came off the ramp and the tractor rolled over on him and he was killed. He was 75 years old and probably had just had the time of his life at the parade. It has been said many times on here, people BE CAREFUL !!! This is no way to end a really great weekend. My prayers and thoughts are with this family during their lose. It is truly sad that this happened.

Prayers uplifted. Saw one almost upset at a pull one time backing it off of the trailer. Be safe guys, find a nice ditch or low spot for those dovetail trailers.

Rick,
Thanks for pic's and update on accident .
I am saddened to hear a follow tractor guy was killed.
My prayers go out to his family.
Keep us posted.
Tony

also those narrow fronts are far more dangerous in a situation like that. and also with a front end loader they have a tendancy to tip over with a load in the air. have seen it happen. but ya too bad those things happen and spoil everyones weekend.

Well, he had probably loaded and unloaded tractors 1000's of times in his 75 years. That's a job that really needs an experienced spotter, heck even two. "STOP!!!. Try again" is all that need be said.

I am guessing that his neck didn't rotate as well as it used to. He couldn't see his wheels as well as in earlier years. Sometimes you just need a younger man to do a job that is so familiar.

The same fatal accident happened to the owner of OEM Equipment several years ago. He was on a Cub Cadet while attempting to load it.

Good traction, adequate power at low rpms, and creeper gears make a big difference. Clutch feathering and improperly adjusted brakes can contribute to such accidents.

(quoted from post at 00:58:56 08/28/12)...The same fatal accident happened to the owner of OEM Equipment several years ago. He was on a Cub Cadet while attempting to load it...

I heard he was unloading a 1206 type tractor and forgot to unhook one of his chains. When he went to take the tractor off it spun around on him and flipped off the trailer.

It happened just before the Red power show 2010 at Laporte, in. O.E.M.did show up at the show but a day late.I bought some parts from them and their employees said he was unloading a lawnmower and rolled over on him.

Over the years of loading and unloading equipment i have had more then my fair share of close calls , i have have shovels self unload off the side of low boys i have had dozers slide off the sides a ramp kick out will unloading a combine and almost take the whole thing off the side . And each time i was being vary careful. While loading a 706 one evening at Tri Greens i had a ramp kick out at the last min. and the right rear went to the ground while tryen to grab the back of the trailer , yea that was fun looking down the exhaust pipe . The loading and unloading is vary dangerous as i don't care how many are watching .
