12 v alternator

Alright I am sure that I am not the first to ask so bare with me. I have a 1941 Farmall A and I want to put a 12v system on it. I have already purchased the alternator and will get a battery soon. My question is about the light bulb, it now has a ge 209 in it, can I use the same light bucket just install 12v bulb? And the light swith is the original 6v switch will the switch handle 12v. If not how do I get around this, And keep the Old style look?

Thanks,
James

There is a halogen version of 1156 for more light.
Never tried the halogen version tho.

I recommend avoiding using the "dim" light setting on 12V.

Dim lights are pretty much worthless to begin with, but the real reason is due to the resistor in the light switch that makes the lights dim. It's designed for 3 bulbs on 6 Volts. You're going to 12 Volts, so the resistor may overheat and fail.

I have used the Halogen 1156's. They work pretty good if you are serious about keeping the original look and still have light to with. I had to order them online as the locals could not get them.

I used 1143 in my M but watts is about same as 1156. 50 Watt halogen 1156 should improve lighting I hope . thanks for info.

If the watts are the same or close it will work fine. If the bulbs are not changed it will blow. If Diode lights like Colby560 is using it will probably also work. Jim
