986 digital tach

My 986 digital dash is working intermittently. When it works, everything is fine, when it doesn"t, it is just black. I am thinking it is a ground. Where does the power come from, and where does it ground to? Everything else in the cab works fine, when it doesn"t work is when I"m heading out to bale, and then, next time it is working fine....hard to fix when it ain"t broke. Any thoughts?

My 1086 did this and the key switch was bad.

New key switch cured the problem. Not sure this is your problem but could be.

it gets power from a switch activated by oil pressure (looks alot like the pressure sender for a gauge but has two wires) it is located at the rear of the engine on the right side behind the oil filters. I have had trouble with these. You can get a replacement from napa for about 1/3 of what case charges and they are probably made the ithe same chineese factory. but it could also be just the wire connections on this switch

If you have the digital dash with the knob for changing from rpm to mph then the power does indeed come from the pressure switch on engine. If you have the touch pad data center the power comes from two sources. One is keyed power at the cab relay and the other power is an inline fuse, always hot, down by the other fuses. That fuse gives a lot of intermittent trouble. The ground is at the cab mount area.

I got it fixed! Turns out the power terminal was loose on the sensor. Got it tightened up and it works fine. Thanks guys!
