farmall h crank

Stuck between the engine and the frame rail. Really was no place. Putting on solid clips is a good idea. Some put the crank on the platform to make stepping on it possible. Some are in the shed on the wall, some are plowed under. Jim

There was an additional clamp set on the rear axle housing to go with the cultivator mounting parts. The forward vertical bar of this clamp set could be inverted putting the longer portion up and giving a hollow square tube to fit the crank handle in. Very poor idea but many "H people" used to do this to provide a crank holder...poor as it was.

I wouldnn"t do it. I thought about it too, but I also used to carry a log chain up front on my H, until it came loose and I bush-hogged it. Wow. Wrapped itself up and beat the living c=== out of the hog. My luck, the crank"d get into the bush-hog and come flying out at 10,000 mph.
I have seen some sort of "official" picture of an F-12 or F-20 or so, with the crank held in place on the front, with a cotter pin holdng it in place.

the crank on our tractors rides between the steering post and the rear gas tank support. there's just enough gap there. if you're standing on the right side of the tractor stick the crank end through first, drop the handle down a little bit, as you rotate to the left. the crank end will be just inside the clutch pedal with plenty of foot room. and it WILL NOT fall off.

I lost mine off the deck twice. kids found it for me both times. the 2nd time it tokk 14 months to find. It's in the shed now.

like jim said on our H it has been between the engine and frame rail on the right side as long as i can remember. I believe grandpa kept it there since he bought the tractor back in the 50's and its still there today and i never heard any stories about loosing it.

Interestingly enough, my dad used to carry the crank for our Super H on the front cultivator mount. The crank handle fits perfectly in one of the two holes on the front of the tractor. Funny we never lost it as when you turned a corner it would swing from one side to the other. Now I keep mine on in a cabinet in the garage. Roger
