Super A blowing oil

So I have a 1950 Farmall Super A. One day it won"t start, after being restored, ran well for awhile and parked for a few weeks. After fooling around with the carburator for awhile, I got it to run on starting fluid. Now it runs, but all of a sudden is burning massive amounts of engine oil, and is actually blowing it out of the exhaust. It is running ok now, but shooting oil out.

What the heck happened?!?

Did you install new sleeves and pistons? Were the piston rings installed correctly? If they have the word "top" stamped on the rings that ring should be installed facing the top of your engine block. Also my manual has any ring that has a groove on the outer face it should be installed with the groove down. Hal

You could have broken a ring with the starting fluid, I would run a compression test and go from there.

The way you word this post not sure if your saying it was fixed up sorry I hate the term restored since most are not just paint and call it restored which that is not. Any how so it ran well after the paint job or it would not run then you got it to run then had a carb problem or what??? You also said it was parked for a few weeks as in how long and did it get water maybe in the engine or condensation?? Could have had a stuck ring and then using the starter fluid if you used it heavily you could have broken a ring or other such thing

Are you using oil from the crancase(burning oil) or do you have too much oil in the air cleaner and drawing oil in from there? Lets hope you didn't break a ring and sore the cylender.

Dave

Have you looked at the oil level in the crank case. If your Hydraulic pump is leaking into the engine, it will literally fill the crank case. If that is not it, a holed piston or trashed rings would be my guess. Jim
