Well I got the brake freed up and had it running but it sounds like tin rattling inside the bell housing area. I am thinking maybe a torque plate failure? When I first started it the 3PH raised slowly but after I let it down it would not lift again. When I split it can the break be made without removing the side frames? I am hoping I can remove the bolts into the motor and just roll it apart. Maybe just loosen the others. Is that possible or am I hoping for too much?

Fixing the torque plate is similar to a clutch split.Seperate at the bell hpousing, the side plates will stay with the front half.Anything any deeper you're gonna have to remove the center section(similar to a TA split)Make sure you have a good adequet splitting stand. If you dont already have a service manual, get one.

And DO NOT REMOVE THE BOLTS ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE FRAME RAILS as it will let the engine tip and break the ft. mounts. So leave at leats four of the bell to frame bolts stuck thru the rear engine pate.

Does that 544 have the frame bolts going into the side of the center section housing, unlike most that bolt into the front of the housing. If so, you need to come up with a hook bolt to hold that rear of the engine up.
