354 clutch with pics update

tore the 354 tore down found out why i didnt have no clutch (it was wore down to metal). the clutch out of the donor tractor may last a few yrs but id like to have a new one in it while i have it tore apart. local IH place said it would cost $180 for the disc,i wasnt expecting it to be that much anyone know anywhere cheaper to buy them?

whats the differnce in a 4 pad,6 pad,and a woven pad? also in these pictures i have of the pressure plates the dirty one looks like its level where the throw out bearing hits it and the cleaner one came from the donor tractor and its not level across. how do i go about adjusting one of these? does anybody have a manual they could get me a copy of the pages that tells how to do this it would be much appreciated. thanks for all the help once again guys.

this is the pad from the donor, but im afraid it might not last long its only 3/8" thick overall. the disk are 1/8" thick on each side and a 1/8" gap between the two pads.

i know some times when things are a apart better new then used all that trouble then clutch goes out
on the bright side is as long as clutch does not slip should be ok its not a race car.

as they say double sided coin its your call.

I can get ya the woven disc for $139 plus shipping. I would need to check my core to verify it on monday if you are interested.

Hi Steven,

From a post by Bernard le mecano:

Hi, you can place all the clutch and pressure plate on the shaft and bolt the engine to the rear end. If you remove the PTO clutch, make sure to aling the clutch carefully in the center of the pressure plate, before replacing the bolts on the fingers, for that, remove the flywheel, place it on flat surface, put the transmission clutch, the plate, belleville spring, plate, PTO clutch, then presure plate, belleville spring and cover. Aling all of the parts, put 3, 5/16 long bolts and hand tighten to the flywheel. Secure the 3 bolts on the fingers and jam nuts, then adjust the gap. Make sure to adjust the 3 fingers at the same level. The gap for the 3 bolts is .090 inches. Remove the pressure plate, replace the flywheel on the engine crank and finish the job. Bernard le mecano

Hi, yes you can, if you don't change the PTO clutch. If so, make sure to center the PTO clutch in the pressure plate before fastening the finger bolts. Re-gap the 3 bolts to .090 inchs for the PTO plate. Bernard le mecano

Hope this helps

JimB,
any idea where the .090 inches is supposed to be?
on the 3 bolts that holds the 3 fingers? or
the other 3 bolts like in the middle of first pic

they are 2 places to adjust,
i am confused.

You might try ebay. There is a seller that is offering a rebuilt pressure plate for $225 and he has the 11" discs in 3 varieties beginning at $115 for the woven. He also has pilot and release bearings. He probably has the 9" PTO disc, too.

Worth a look -

.090" (should be .072 - .078) is between the 3 studs on the main pressure plate to the underside of the PTO pressure plate.
