What is the points setting? Do you have to disengage the impulse coupling by lifting the pawl and then rotate until on the high point (lobe)? or just have number #1 cylinder on TDC and on high point of lobe?
Thanks

once impulse is getting ready to trip just turn ever so slowly and the moment it trips stop there and check the gap. it will then be on high point of cam. no sense going by tdc because if timing is out cam is not nesessarily at the highest point.

Take the plugs out and have the wife crank it until the points are at the high point of the "Points-cam."

Just bump the engine over until the rubbing block on the points is on the high point on one of the lobes. Then adjust your points. Coat the lobes with some lube so the rubbing block doesn't wear so fast. Hal

this is to neb. kirk. it works just as i suggested, as soon as the impuse snaps the points just open and do not rotate and close. do not have to rotate backwards either. i give accurate info. to go by and do not waste my time printing guesses. i guess to prove me wrong go out and try by the snap method and you will see they are open on high side of cam.
