Belly pump in 39 M

Okay I am continuing to go thru this 39 M and eventually get it ready for paint after fixing everything that needs attention. When I purchased the tractor it came with a belly pump that was not installed. I will never have need for hydraulics as this will be a show tractor. Will it look strange or be undesirable for this tractor not to have a belly pump when it is all restored? I"m inclined not to put it back on. It has one corner where one of the bolts goes broke off anyway so I would have to have that repaired. What do you guys think?

For a show tractor you may want to look for the sheet metal cover that goes over the entire opening on the bottom of the torque tube. It would make the tractor look more "finished". The belly pump was an option from the factory and some were shipped without it.

You COULD just reinstall the pump with out the drive coupler installed. That would "fill the hole" ub the housing with out the pump working.

As mentioned by Zach there is a cover which covers the bottom opening on the torque tube on M's w/o the pump. It is not sheet metal and in fact is a heavy cast part which isn't that difficult to find usually. The part no. of the cover is 8027D. There are also some covers which fill the holes where the pipe fitting come through the torque tube for the belly pump as well and yet another one where the vent cap and pump dip stick are located on the upper part of the torque tube. The part no. for those caps is 57563DX and five will be needed. Now you have a reason to do some tractor salvage yard visits. I believe that cast cover is intended to provide additional strength to the tractor when a pump is not installed but I doubt it would be really needed for just a show tractor though, Hal.

I agree the cast iron cover does add structural integrity.

No a 39 model would not look strange without.
Other than the cast cover already mentioned. I think a 39 model used cork like plugs in the unused holes.
If you want period correct and have a clutch housing with a casting # 8026D, DA or DB. the steel hole covers with spring clips were not used.

THIS particular cover Hal is talking about was also used to mount certain implements to the belly of the tractor as well as cover the hole.

Mike the part # Hal listed is just a cover. Think the one you mean was used on stage 2 live hydraulic SM tractors. Don't think they were around in 39.

Yes,THAT was the one I was talking about.(DID not reconize the part # listed, but I THOUGHT that was the one he was talking about, but is different.)

I know some under mounted implements used this as an anchoring point.(DO not know all of them???)

Okay, thanks. Bates has the cover for the torque tube but it is $150. The also have those caps, but they are $20 a piece. Guess I'll have to give this some thought.

Send me an email as I have it open and I'll share some sources where you can probably locate these items. If you would rather talk just send me a phone no. and time to call as that should work as well. I have done the same thing on one of my H's as I left the belly pump out of it after a bearing repair on the transmission and had no problem locating these parts, Hal.
