ground speed for H and M

Did the H and M's have the same gears in the transmission when they were made. I know the suppers had faster ground speeds. I have a 43 H and a 43 M and the M is a lot faster in all gears. I'm wondering if the gears in the M were changed out at one time.

Without looking up the speeds, the gears are different because of the tractor size. But, the speeds are very close to each other. There were 7 mph 4th gears available for each or about 2 mph faster the the usual 5 1/8. The gears in either tractor can be changed to those used in the Super Series which have faster 2nd, 3rd and 4th, in particular 3rd and 4th. Check the tire size on both, that will make a difference. The final drive or differential gears can be exchanged with the W4 and W6, which results in faster speeds (I think) in all gears.

Other things can factor in ground speed.Tire size;Does the H ave under size tires,Does the M have oversize?Engine speed; Is the H running at full rated RPM?vIs the M over speeded? My SH(12.4x38) and SM(13.6x38) are exactly the same speed in 3rd gear.Iwould suspect 5th is similar.

Both tractors have same size tires - I'm thinking the gears in the M have been changed - maybe to super M gears. I like the ground speed better on the M anyway - H seems a bit slow to me.

Theirs 200 rpm diference between the two tractors the non supers had the same speeds in both tractors in the supers were the same untill 4th in the SM.If you got the XIL code that was a low low and a 7mph 4th.

My 49 H runs 19mph at full throttle. I passed one of those speed signs the police put near a school one day. Answered my question in a hurry.

Mine runs 17 according to my GPS. I clocked it the other day when a buddy used it and I played chase car to his place and back.

I put Super H gears in my H and liked the new speeds much better. The 300 seems to be about the same speeds as the Super H, more or less.

"--the supers were the same untill 4th in the SM"

The Supers were close to the same until THIRD gear, 5 mph as opposed to a little over 4 in the H and M. 4th was 6+, 2nd was a little faster also.

Looked through a old notebook where I done some math in the past. Easy to make a mistake on the all the numbers. So if something doesn't look right say so. Regular gears.
For H tractor at 1650 RPM and a M at 1450 RPM. Both equiped with the same 13.6 tires.
gear H MPH M MPH
1 2.67 2.68
2 3.64 3.55
3 4.33 4.36
4 5.46 5.28
5 16.69 16.68
