Behlin Power Steering on 450 L.P.

I have installed a rebuilt hydraulic pump on my 450 L.P. Everything checks out. Next, I plan on re-installing the Behlin power steering motor, and rebuilding it if necessary. My question: Is there any reason why I couldn't just re-install the Behlin motor and see what happens? It wasn't working when the tractor was last driven 25 years ago, but it turns freely, and the problem might have been the defective hydraulic pump, right? If it won't do the power assist thing after I crank it up and try it out, anybody know the best place to get a rebuild kit for the Behlin motor? Thanks.
 
You can certainly try hooking it back up and see if it works. I know of no "rebuild kit" for the Behlen torque unit, Steel Wheel Ranch sells rebuilt units though.
 
more than likely its the priority valve that quit. those things are junk and even trying to rebuild tem sometimes wont make them work. i plumb in an aftermarket priority valve in 450LP when i restored it and works perfect

Where can I obtain an aftermarket priority valve? Thanks. By the way, I called Hi Lo today, a holiday of course, and it is a good phone number, I got Hi Lo's voicemail, will call them tomorrow. Again, thanks to all for the help and advice.
 
Aftermarket priority valves can be obtained from any place that you buy hydraulic parts. They may be called "priority flow divider."
 
I use one of my 450's to move bales. Priority valve is shot, but I discovered its blocked partway open? I just operate a remote valve either way (dead heading it) to direct hi pressure to steering circuit. something to try when you get the steering motor back in her.
