706 3pt hitch question

I just bought a nice 706 with a 3pt hitch. I noticed that the plate where the top link mounts to on the tractor is broken. There are two sets of holes on the bracket to attach the top link/3rd arm to but the lower set of holes are broken off-pieces no where to be found. My question is can I take that plate off and turn it upside down to use or will it matter if the top link/3rd arm is in the top set of holes?

You cannot turn it around as the mounting holes will not line up. Different equipment requires diffferent height of third arm so, many will work on upper hole, others require lower hole. If you don't have an operators manual with the equipment you want to use, then cautious trial and error will suffice to see if it works out with the one hole you have.

If you want to make it operational you could clean it up and take it to a welding repair shop. A good welder can make it as good as new or better. Used parts might be cheaper. Jim

Had the same thing on the 706 I bought. Got a replacement from a local salvage place (it was a new part). And no, you can't just turn it over as the holes do not line up.

I don't remember what I paid for it. Was a simple swap.
