w6 transmission in a m

have been looking for years for the 7mph 4th gear attachment for a md but have no luck finding any. a guy told me i could take the 4th and 5th and 2nd and 3rd sliding gears and also the 3rd and 4th coutershaft gears from a w6 and get close to the same result. has anybody tried this? thanks

Yes, but if I remember correct not all W-6 had standard gears the same, serial number break. Think the ones with the faster standard ratio used one tooth more than a M driving a one tooth smaller than a M gear for 4th. Still a little slower than a SM 4th. Have some notes with gear counts from switching gears. Don't have time to look now, maybe a little later.
Okay first gear was the one with a serial # break. Going to list some gear teeth with the first # driving the 2nd number. 3rd gear M, 26-34. W6 27-36. 4th gear M, 29-34. W6 30-33. Second is the same in both, Most of the W6 used slower first gear ratio than a M. Posted standard gears, both had the slow first and high speed 4th option. SM 4th used a 33 tooth driving a 30.
