had to do a little pounding and bond-o on fenders. They are not perfect. Has high altitude pistons and we switched it over to a variable speed govenor.

How did you switch it to a variable speed governor? I tried to switch my 10-20 and the variable speed governor would not fit. Did you change the timing gear case and cover?

I would like to switch my F-30 and would appreciate your advice and wisdom.

To do the swith from "fixed" speeed to variable speed you need: the weights, the front cover and the throttle lever linkage. We ran into this problem when switching our 33 F30 back to "fixed" speed. I will try to find some pics for you.

Dan is right on what you need to convert it over. We got everything to switch it over from Aldersons tractor. This is the only picture I have now of this set up . Let me know if you need more pictures pretty simple to switch over.

i like the paint color. is that the real ihc color? what manifold do you have on it as i see the exhuast is going through the hood, robin manifold? the muffler and tires kinda jump out at me since they are too new for the tractor, but nice job.

That looks awesome!!

Rustred: he may have used a Heisler manifold, they exhaust straight up. Heisler made gas manifolds for the 10-20s and 15-30/22-36s for use with the original 2 or 3-bolt side draft carbs.

What did you do with the variable speed parts you took off your F-30. I am interested in purchasing them.

I will be repainting my Dad's first tractor, 1928 McCormick Deering 10-20 this summer. I'm would like to know the type of paint (urethane, acrylic enamel, etc) and paint code you used. Is the red IH red? Great looking tractor. The first time I painted the tractor I use DuPont Dulux enamel which is no longer available.

ur not even close. those tractors never ever had triple rib front tires in the 1920's or that rear design. and that tractor was originaly on steel .

Red, I don't think it would be true "fixed speed" but would have a fixed fuel feed much like a lawn mower does. The engine would stall down under load with no governor to add fuel.

(quoted from post at 17:18:54 02/24/13) Those tires havent been made for 50 years. I think they were one of first treds made

Not quite. Those rear tires are still being made with that style tread. I see them all the time on the small foreign tractors like Kubota, Kioti etc....

The 10-20 engine was governed to run at 1000 rpm. The throttle lever limited the movement of the carburetor butterfly, i.e if the governor tried to open up for more fuel to match increased load it could not. This is why the manual warns that if the throttle is closed there is little power available. The early tractors did have a governor adjustment on the rear side of the governor housing but this was for minor adjustments when say running belt driven machines (i.e. it was not adjustable from the seat). The very early 15-30 did not even have this adjustment, it came a bit later. As far as I know, the first IH tractors (post Titan 10-20) to have adjustable governors (i.e. where one can change the spring tension to adjust desired rpm from the seat) was probably the 1932 F-12 and the later 12 series tractors. The 1934 W-40 and WD-40 also had adjustable governors, the other tractors, 10-20, W-30 F-20 and F-30 did not get adjustable governors until about 1937. I believe there was an upgrade kit to make the changes on older tractors.
