A Industrial

Just found an A Industrial by the serial Tag. It is still in its original yellow paint, but It has two wide rear axles like a B and it has what looks like a factory wide Square tube front axle??? The front axle is as wide as a C but is square. It is a 1947 model, but the wide back axles have me puzzled as does the odd wide front. It does have the 24 inch rear tires????

A and B axles are more or less interchangeable. I don't know about the front axle. If by square you also mean diamond shaped those come on the International A (industrial). It does sound wider than the one on Int A, perhaps it is at its widest setting. A picture might help. A and B have 24 inch tires.

yes I know about the axles on the A and B but from the factory I haven"t seen an A with both wide axles. As for the Front yes I guess it is also considered diamond shape or square, I am use to seeing round axles on all of the Cs and As. I will try to attach a photo.

You mean the diff housings are interchangeable but the diff shafts are different. Pic looks like they added the front from an A to a B which has been done. I had a B that came from Colo lots of yellow paint and industral wide front from an A. I was told there in Colo that Hi-Way dept used them for mowing and that the fronts were added there.

What does the diff housings measure. Are both housings the same length or is the left one wider than the drivers side. The housings on the A and Bare not the same measurement. Left side could be fron a B ar if its the same measurement as the drivers side would have came from a BN.Does the serial# match the one on the block unser #1 plug. Engine could have been changed also the seat bracket could have been changed.

What gene says--you can double check if you can see the engine serial and the chassis serial which is inside the left seat support, if it is still there. If a B the chassis serial prefix is FAB, engine serial is FABM (M for motor may not be there). If an A both prefixes are FAA. As gene said if the engine is original the serials match unless higher than 201000. If the serials have the prefix IAA it is a modified industrial A, which I doubt, seeing the picture.

The serial tag reads Model IA, serial # is IAA 216552 it was built in late 47 the last of the regular A"s I am still confused just like before.
