I just got a call from my painter and he says that the PPG paint codes i have for my farmall dont cross reference. The PPG paint codes are 70019, 71310. I was hoping to choose a color this weekend. Are their updated paint codes? I didn"t see this one coming. I am almost done with this restoration and can't wait to post pics. If any of you have done a recent restoration please post your paint codes for me. I know i shouldn"t be stressing about this but i just want it done right.

thanks james

tires exhaust and wiring ahve been ordered too :)

It appears that prior to 1949 the IH 50 color was used, and the PPG crossover would be the 70019, and the later PPG 71310 is the equivalent of the IH 2150. I used the 71310 when I painted my "M" 12 years ago, so these codes are not new. See the link I attached.
IH Paint Codes

IH 50/PPG 70019 will come across as a Chrysler color, I do not know how accurate it will be. In mid 1949 IH began using IH 1102b which has no PPG cross. IH 2150/PPG 71310 is still available unless PPG discontinued it recently. I haven't checked on 70019 in several years and have never used it. 2150 began with the introduction of the 404/504, etc in 1961. I don't believe your dealer is correct, but if so if you are willing to use PPG Omni MTK acrylic urethane these are the toners your dealer should. I assume these are grams, the parts column totals 4686.8. These numbers are good for PPG Omni MTK ONLY, will not work for acrylic enamel or the higher priced Concept:

Cumulative Parts
M104 Red 1184.0, 1184
M134 Violet 2118.4, 934.4
M130 Orange 2806.8, 688.4
M117 Black 2856.0, 49.2
MX195 Accelera 2993.6, 77.6
M149 Clear 4386.8, 1453.2

This formula gives to my eyes a distinct orange tint, which you can partially eliminate by adding more red and less orange, perhaps changing about 30% each. I have forgotten exactly what I did because I have switched to a modfied version of Omni base clear. The orange doesn't bother me because I have gotten used to it. Due to EPA enviornmental concerns, the original colors don't exist anymore, and result in too much experimental work to get the color that I "think" is correct. I should have done this in my word processor to get the colums to line up.

It's not my call because it is not my tractor, but if you want your H to look like 99% of all the other restored Hs, just go to your local Case-IH dealer and get the IH 2150. The 2150 has a very high gloss already, but if you want even more gloss, hardener can be added. I used the 2150 on a 1940 H 14 or so years ago. This tractor is a working tractor but is back in the shed every night. The paint is still very shiny with no indication of fading, and I did NOT use hardener.

I'm with Rusty on using the CaseIH 2150 paint with hardener. I have several restored IH Farmalls some with the high dollar automotive paints by DuPont and PPG and none look better then the 2150 CaseIH painted tractors. All of my tractors are kept in a closed building with no outside light when not in use and the CaseIH paint with hardener has maintained it's "fresh new look" appearance better then the others. All have been painted by professional painters so lack of a correct application is not in play here, Hal.

Try another paint dealer. I use Dupont and was using IH 7140. I looks a little darker then the 2150. My son got the last gallon from the store as they are only going to carry water base paint. So when the color to mix run out that's it in that store. That might be what happened in your store. Ed
