450 head gasket

I believe that I had a leaky head gasket letting antifreeze into the combustion chamber. I did not see any cracks in the head or in the block. I got a felpro gasket (victor reinz)which is different than the IH gaskets that I have used in the past. It is metal on only one side. Would you suggest using any sealer for the gasket? Is this better than the IH gasket? Thanks for the help.

Unless the gasket packaging or gasket say do not use sealer, or no sealer needed, I use copper coat spray. one nice covering coat on each side, and wait until it just begins to stop being tacky. Then put it in place and torque it down. as directed. Jim

any head gasket which has metal on the out side need a sealer. i have used permatex hi-tack sealer for over thirty years now with not one leak so i dont even consider changing to the coppercoat stuff. all my 460's 560's and 660's have proven this to me, as the head gasket is the weak point on these engines. i have no oil seaps at gasket area after using tractors for regular field use.

I would do what Jim says, do not believe Hi Tack is correct for this application.

A little irontite later if it still leaks.
