The T/A on my 350 started making a ticking sound after we pulled it out of a soft spot. It seems to tick a little faster than once a second, probably once per revolution of the drive shaft. It stops if you push in the main clutch or pull the T/A lever.

I took the cover off and nothing looks obviously out of place. Any ideas on what could be wrong ?

Thanks

Greg

Their is 2 very small springs on the torque throw out bearing carrier that holds it straight. If those springs break it will rattle or tick because it floats back and forth. And you will only hear it on the low side if I remember correctly

The odd thing was that the noise stopped when the T/A lever was pulled or when the clutch pedal was depressed.

Pushing in the clutch pedal and the ticking stopping, I can understand. Why is goes away when the lever is pulled makes no sense.

When the lever is pulled it ingauges the bearing locking it up so it can't float back and forth on the TA fingers. And when the clutch is pushed down it disengages the transmission thus it won't make the ticking noise u hear. I know it sounds weird. I just put a TA in a 560 and it did the same thing cause I forgot to put the springs in. Once I installed the springs it was gone.

If you pull the cover off of the top of the TA housing you can start the tractor and watch wats going on. You can then move the torque lever back and forth and you should be able to see why the noise is their. You can put the two springs in without splitting the tractor but it is difficult. If it is the springs broke or missing I can walk you through it.
