H Lift-all pressure relief cap blows off

This is the third or fourth time that the pressure relief cap in the hydraulic pump has blown off. There is enough travel in the arm to let that happen. Is it supposed to be that way ?

How do I keep the cap from blowing off ?

Thanks

Greg

I'm no expert with hydraulic liftalls, but with that said, it would seem to me that the pressure relief valve isn't working properly, allowing excess pressure to build up until something gives. I'd try to find a replacement for that dysfunctional valve.

This is a '40 H so it would have come with the low pressure pump, but has been converted to 'high' pressure output. I don't know if that makes any difference in the parts for the pressure relief valve. The parts book does not show any.

BTW, I had replaced all the springs and balls in the pump with new IH parts a few years ago.

When I had it apart I noticed that the I&T manual calls for a pressure relief spring that is 1 5/16" long. The new one I installed was 1 7/8" long.

Anyone know what is current and correct ?

Thanks

Greg

You mean the button over the top of relief valve right. It is to trip the lever when relief valve opens. They get bent over the years as they should not move enough to allow the button (cap) to come out of place. I have bent many back into shape as the lever is malleable case. Easy does it. Also, the pin gets bent allowing excessive clearance for cap to come out of place.

That's the one. The lever looks straight, but there is enough space to reinstall the cap by just lifting the lever and compressing the spring. Are the higher pressure (700 psi) caps longer ? This one is about an inch long.

No difference in caps and you should definetely not be able to install it without removing pin from lever. Time to find a different lever or start bending it. Like I said, have done many, lucked out and never broke any. Make sure the pin is not bent.
