H Countershaft Seal

I just need to know if I need to take out the three bolts and remove the bearing retainer to change the leaking seal on the countershaft. I have a new seal, and the nut came off easily. Just need to know for sure if I need to take off the plate or just dig out the old seal. Thanks!

No, you need to take the coupler off first.

It is right hand thread, put the tractor in gear, insert a bar and screw it out.

You can do it either way. I like to remove the nosing because it is much easier to place the seal with it on the bench and usually the gasket is so dried out that it seeps oil.
