brake hub seal 1940 m farmall

Is the brake hub seal on all farmall m the same im getting ready to change them on a 1940 and was told they were different than the later models thanks

Take the old one out so you can take it along to the store to get the new one. You will need to remove it to replace with the new one so the old one will have the # and they can get the measurements to make sure new one will work.

when you remove the seal, do not attempt to unbolt and pry the casting off that holds the seal. it has to be removed from the bull gear on the inside of the transmission. prying it will break it and cause a major problem. it looks like it just unbolts, but it dont.

The hub itself may be different because of a different spline arrangement, but I believe the oil seal is the same from early to late.

Thsnks rusty farmall. The hub is different it has a key in it instead of splined like the late model ones I have changed the seal looks the same but I hsd been told it wss different on 39 and 40 models because the drum is different

IH called the piece under the drum retaining washer a seal also. It was different on the early M tractors.
