What is the right-easy way to install the 2 plastic piston rings on the rear of clutch pack drum. I have done it before but not the easiest.

Pretty much just have to try to gently stretch them over the grooves. Soaking them never helps much. After they are on I compress them with a hose clamp that has the protective sleeve in it like used on the air cleaner hoses. A shim inside of clamp will suffice. I also bevel the edge of the slots in center housing so ring does not catch on way in. I have been using the newer metal style used in magnums. They are easy to install, expensive and I have no idea how the wear characteristics on the housings will stack up from the steel rings.

Like Pete said soak them in HOT water and GENTLY stretch them just enough to get them up and ove and into the grooves , i use a 90 degree dental pick . Then i use a piston ring compressor to squeeze them back into shape and the ya lube them up and gently install everything.

Thanks Guys. I have never used the steel rings before ,but I have put the teflon ones in hot oil and stretched them over, but I was thinking that there had to be an easier way. I guess I will just probably keep doing it the way that I have done it.
