Question......so I am thinking about making a purchase....so I am looking at a 706 vs 756....
what are the pros, cons, likes - dislikes of these tractors?

Looking for some additional HP to make hay with and bush hog. What is your opinions and thoughts.....

They are basically the same tractor with some evolutionary changes during the production run. Changes in the 706 include the addition of a frame mounted draw bar instead of fast hitch only. Changes in the length of the PTO output shafts. Longer hydraulic levers. Thicker brake drums. Some changes in sheet metal and lights. Engines changed from a C263 to a C291 or a D282 to a D310.

The 756 is basically a late 706 with redesigned shift linkage and different grill. They also have a larger operators platform and curved pedals rather than straight. They also have a separate warning light for the TA lube pressure rather than being combined with the engine oil pressure. Later 756 tractors had a change in the pressure angle of most of the gears teeth from 20° to 25°.

706 and 756 basically the same tractor. The shifting is so called improved in the 56 series. If you are not shifting a lot it doesn't really matter. The biggest difference is in a early 06 has the 263G/282D setup.Later ones have basically the same engines as the 56 series 291G/310D, which are better engines-diesel is easier to start and more hp.Aside from fast hitch being more likely on the 706 they are practically the same with the exception of some sheet metal changes.I had a 706 and really liked it , my dad had a 766 which is newer and has a 360 D in which made it really nice, my brother still has the 66.

Stay away from the 706. Not one of IH's best tractors

For some reason it allays had trouble. Go with a 8xx or a 6xx. Much better tractors

I owned a 706 with a D282 motor. The tractor from the clutch back is identical to the 806. I also owned two 806 diesels. My 706 was a 1966 model. It had the long hyd handles and longer pto shafts. It was just shorter from the clutch housing forward than the 806. There were many times I had the 15ft bushog on the 706 and it did good with it. It was a lot easier on fuel than my 806's or 856 was. I kept good glow plugs in it and had a freeze plug block heater for cold weather. Mine started easy and never had trouble with it.
