Half Century of Progress show touchy subject

I know this is a touchy subject with a lot of people but I need to ask anyway. What is the policy on bringing your own UTV to the show and using it on the grounds? I would like to attend and have three men over the age of 70 that would like to go with me. They could probably manage okay but it would be much easier for them to ride. Do they allow you to bring your own? If so who would I contact ahead of time about doing so? I know there are too many of them running around already but what is one more right? Thanks.

i dont know ther policy. but the place is so big you have to have a ride , i am bringing. a bobcat. utility vehicle ,an oversize golfcart. see you at rantoul. tom and. melinda. chesnut.

At the last show there were a gazillion private owned golf carts and mules and gators, you couldnt stir em with a stick, but they sure charge you a good fee to bring your own in now mind you...... the show is huge and so spread out, they may announce cutting beans in the North 40 and later picking corn or ploughing in the south 40 and its a longggggggg way from field to field. I have a leg problem so about had to have mine there and I offered many a ride to an elderly person who appreciated it...

Fun show

Its sort of like a golf cart and mule and gator show where they bring some antique farm equipment lol

Thanks for the info. I know it isn't a popular stance for many here but I think we could cover a lot more of the show with my Kubota RTV900 since I will have three older fellas in tow. I can seat either two or three in front and one or two guys on the tailgate. Does anyone know who to contact about bringing a unit of this type down there?

Maybe I am misinterpreting it. Maybe UTVs are ok if they are kept under 5 mph???

On the side...the Badger Steam & Gas show was MUCH better this year. Those !@#$ golf carts could only go one way in the swap area aisles. Like this street could only go north then the next was a one way to the south then the next to the north. It made for a MUCH smoother flow than normal. I still love how the golf cart people expect you to run to the side of the aisle so they can get through faster than the walkers...

go to halfcenturyofprogress.com
click on more, then policies.
Says that ATV 4 wheelers WILL be allowed,
5MPH speed limit for everything.

I don"t no where you got your information but according to the official sponsors you are wrong. http://www.halfcenturyofprogress.com/policies.html

I know I was sleeping when I read it. First sentence of 2. in the link I posted and your link (same exact info) says ATVs will be allowed.

So I can drive an ATV that is 4'x6' and has the potential to go 50+ but not a bicycle!?! Why is that?

Because you'll get run over by an ATV if you're riding a bicycle.

It would be great to think only young healthy people could attend shows like this, but it doesn't work that way... they just let anyone in (just a touch of sarcasm there for those that might not recognize it).
I am only 71 but my heart is over 50% blocked and it's where nothing can be done about it in the location of the blockages (already had triple by-pass). I can walk a ways, stop to take pics or rest or talk to someone, then move on, but to see a large show would take several days or maybe weeks. I just hope those that complain about ATVs or golf carts can walk a large show until they are 100 years old. BTW, I don't go to big shows because of this.
I do think there should be rules about how and where they can be used, but let them in for those that need them and still enjoy the old tractors and machinery. (I apologize for the rant!)

I know many shows don"t allow them and some allow for the handicapped. Then there are some you can bring or rent a golf cart and I know one that charges $55 per day. Which I feel is excessive especially when we have a Kubota sitting at home that goes no faster than the hopped up golf carts and is not any bigger. As a result my Father who is 82 and has had a broken back and hip misses some shows as we will not pay that price. He had a little handicap scooter ,but battery would not last long on rough terrain and was less stable as he did tip over once. I say let the handicap and elderly use them with a driver. Me I"m perfectly able to walk and do when not driving my Dad.

Where do you draw the line with that policy? (Not that I disagree, but devils advocate in me makes me ask) Only when you have a handicap sticker or plates? When YOU deem it necessary/honor system? After a certain age?

I know a group of guys (and some are on this forum) that I see every year piled onto a golf cart just so they don't have to walk around. Yeah, it is probably tough for a few of them to walk because they are overweight, but they could certainly do it.

No offense, but I don't see you riding a bicycle.

Only young, healthy people would consider riding a bicycle around the show. The problem is they think it's a BMX track and go tearing cross lots at breakneck speeds, flying out into aisles in front of the golf carts and ATVs.

Golf carts are fine, but there are a LOT of people who have them but don't need them, or should be trying to get along without them. I guess this is America and people should be free to do what they want, but it's the people that abuse the privilege, and don't act in an honest, moral fashion that ruin it for the people with real need.

That's what I saw, especially in the first picture.
