Hot transmission

Just got done mowing hay for about two hours with my Farmall 300 and decided to feel the bottom of the transmission. It was hot! Not hot enough to burn my hand but I definitely took it off fairly quick. It was in the 90s but I didn't think it would get that hot. It has been many years since this tractor did much work and even then I can't recall feeling the transmission to see if it was hot or not. There wasn't any odd noises coming from the transmission. Would this be consider normal? At least I don't have to worry about water in the fluid anymore.

Hydraulics could be a source of heat. If he hydraulics is under pressure for some reason, heat will build up. I'm not sure it would cause it, but make sure the 1-way/2-way selection is fully in one position or the other.
Some kind of restriction in the hydraulics. Does the 300 have an filter to be checked?

It looks like I need to retract my statements. I was thinking the hydraulic oil came from the transmission, but I was wrong. I got to wondering where the hydraulic filter was located and found a separate Touch Control independent of the transmission oil. It's been 40 years since I've been around a 300.
