Grill screen removal question

I am prepping my Super A tractors for paint. I want to sandblast the sheet metal before spraying a self etching primer. I tried to remove the clips on the grill screen to protect it from the sandblasting and better access for bumping out the grill. Those little buggers are really on there. Before using excessive force, are the clips spot welded or soldered in place? Any tips?

well, my experience is they are NOT clips, but tabs that are part of the sheet metal and just bent over (or possibly spot welded on), but hey do NOT come off.

How do you remove the grill screen then? Mine is held in place with some pointed tabs that will bend out of the way, but the flat clips have me stumped.

I have replaed several cloths and some are spot welded on the two vertical bars die grinder to remove then i make new ones for replacing. Ifind i much easier with the 3/16 cloth to do it in two pieces overlaping in the middle before painting and use fiberglass resin to hold in place when its clean after sandblasting the resin will stick easy. I have a piece that i use to make the bends over the two vertical pieces then bend the tabs to hold fast takes some time .

Here are a couple of pictures of the clips. Both Super As have them.

The clips are often soldered in place. I use a torch with a small pointed flame to heat the clip then it will come off easier. I also heat the bent tabs red before straightening them so as not to break them from being bent too many times. Be careful not to melt them.
