Before ordering rebuild kit.....

what are some things I should do? I'm planning to pull the Farmall B engine this weekend to get out the last sleeve, clean the engine up, and looks like i need to get the camshaft out to take a look at the lifters, I think they are very rusted. I've seen that the rebuild kits come in different bore sizes, how do I know which I need?

Never order parts till the machine shop has done there work as in turning the crank shaft etc. Once you know what things look like and only then do you order parts and most of the time the machine shop does that since they did the work

If you are doing a complete job and replacing sleeves and pistons wait until the crank is ground so you then will know which bearings you need. Then get the measurements of the sleeves and get the best price for the complete kit with gaskets called out of frame kit. Do check for prices as they do vary as much as 100 or so. Lifters are easy to reface. The head will be a different deal. Sleeves and pistons should be around 55 eack and bearings rods and mains around 100.

Measure the length of the old sleeves. If the engine is the original engine the sleeves probably measure 6-7/8" in length. You should be able to install a sleeve kit that will boost the cid to 123. The pistons measure 3.125" in diameter and I used these on a Farmall A in 1975.
Be sure to clean that block area where the sleeve seals are located. There's probably rust and crud in that area. Hal
