Hyd fill level on H

If your H has factory hydraulics, there should be a funny mushroom-shaped cap under the gas tank toward the right side of the tractor.

Unscrew that cap, and pull out the dipstick. That is your fill level. I think it holds 6 quarts.

Dipstick is sometimes missing. In that case, full is full.

After 70-odd years, anything could happen. I've seen dozens of different add-on hydraulic systems, some nice, some cobbled up. For those you're on your own.

If there is not enough oil in the reservoir to fully extend the cylinder/cylinders, add more oil until it functions as desired. If you get TOO much oil in it, the excess will spew out through the vent hole in the fill cap and make a mess, but no other damage will occur. If you aren't using the belly pump, it still needs SOME oil in it. You can fashion a dipstick from a length of #9 wire. Just insert the wire, pull it back out, and see where the oil level is. It won't be accurate by any means, but at least you will know there is some oil in there. Add 1 quart at a time until you are satisfied.

If I remember correct 9 inches down was the full level with a original length pipe nipple in the fill opening. 13 inches down with a remote control valve set up. Most just filled to whatever needed and sometimes added another tank or extended the fill opening if oil level needed to be higher. Warning when overfilling with something like a loader with one way cylinders. Fast lowering can bust the reservoir housing if enough oil needs to escape out the vent hole.
