IH Cyclo 800 dry fertilizer

I am finishing up the "restoration" of this old planter. Restoring to full use, that is. The drive augers on the dry fertilizer have a square shaft that runs the full width of the planter and extends outside the 1st and 4th boxes on either side (this is an 8 row, 32" planter with 4 dry boxes). Does this square shaft then go into some type of bracket on the frame? Mine has no brackets and the shaft and augers slide left and right thru the boxes like they need some type of end support. Hope this is not too confusing. There are bolt holes in the frame on either end like brackets would go there....but no bracket.

There is a number of these for sale if you do a search. Many of the pictures of the dry fertilizer units show a bearing and bracket in the center beside the drive chain. If the one you wish to put in service does not have the bearing I would bet it is rusted out and the dry unit has been taken out of service. It could be costly to get it going again.

I see those bearings. The drive unit is in the center of the planter and there is a bearing that the shaft goes thru on each side of the unit. Both bearings are in their brackets and grabbing the shaft I can move it enough to see the bearings move. I think the augers are a little stuck but not shot. Drive chain is AWOL...not a good sign.

If it helps, on the older 56 planters the bearing supports for the augers are part of the fertilizer box. They are connected to the main drive shaft by a tube and a shear pin that allows for some flex.

The square shaft that sticks out of the outer ends do not have a brg. The auger riding in the cast peice on the inside of hopper is the brg. The reason is if it plugs it will spit fert out and not twist shaft off
