Plowing alfalfa pictures...

Plowed some alfalfa under this weekend. My new to me 720 toggle trip 4-18 was a good match for my 766D in the hard ground. Low 3rd was all it wanted. The wind came up on Sunday causing me to raid my neighbors shed and bring back a nice 1206 with a cab. Got the job done nicely.

Nice pics.Very satisfying! How much difference did you notice in the 1206 vs the 766?I too got to plow with my "new to me" 1944 JD 'A' tractor.Ran great!

You are correct. The plow was set up for my 766. When I switched to the 1206 I didn't take the time to do it all over again. I just wanted to finish and I did.

It was a load for my 766. Low 3rd, T/A back more then I cared for. The 1206 was still low 3rd, but T/A ahead with less effort. Tried low 4, but it just wasn't quit there, 3rd felt better.

Looking at the furrow, it almost looks like you used GPS steering. Years ago, farmers prided themselves in how straight they could plow or plant. That looks good. Around here, most have now gone to no-till. I always loved plowing.

I don't think we ever owned a field that was straight, everything was curved around the side of hill. About the only thing that gets plowed today are the terraces to freshen them up.

Neighbor just sprayed his 12 year old 120 acres of alfalfa with roundup and no til drilled winter wheat in. It's up already and looking great.

I've looked at a lot of plows. Just bought a 720 in fact. Never saw the like of that comb type thing on the top. Whats that for?

A harrow to break up clods. It is used more in the spring than in the fall. Uneven surface in the fall helps with wind erosion.
