Starting something with Charlie U

I put all my hay equipment away today and did all my chores with my H. Started several times. Really is a pleasure now to see the ammeter swing over and recharge the battery.....every time! Not to mention, I didn't need the handcrank!

Thanks for an easy straight forward kit.

I have a 1940 "H" with the original 6 volt generator and the cutout with the original light switch. We run it on a small 12 volt battery and since it has a mag it hardly needs that only to start. I noticed it was showing charge like normal. Will a generator with the cut out charge a 12 volt battery enough to keep it up?? I know it was kind of hard on the light bulbs but they actually worked on the dim position. It was kind of a surprise and I wondered if the old generators with cut-outs performed different than the new generators with the 3 wire Regulators?

I get amused by all the complaining about ruining a tractor with an alternator, and saying there is nothing wrong with 6V. You have to statistically look at the number of posts on generator issues to get at the truth.

Alternators rock.

Everything around here has an alternator on it now. It's amazing to never have to think about the charging system, isn't it? That must be what it was like when this equipment was new. Ahhhhh, technology.

To quote Charlie, 6V went out of date with the ark. I have his kit on my Dad's SW6. Working on putting it on his H. Going to order another kit for the W450.

Sometimes they will put out enough to keep the battery charged.

Definitely change out the light bulbs. Running them on 12V in the dim setting is hard on the resistor in the light switch. I think if it burns out the bulbs will go to full 12V and then PIFF!
