Narrow farmall cub

Can a farmall cub be narrowed up to fit down a 30 inch row?

If not how narrow can you go. I'm looking for the possibilities at modifying the cub to go narrower than the specs say

Looking to plant corn in 30 inch rows

Want to use a cub to cultivate. Straddle

To fit the wheels need to be 30 inches from center of the right
wheel to center of the left wheel

Can a cub be set this narrow

When you cultivate you straddle 1 row ,but your wheels are between 2 outer rows. So your wheels have to be about 55 inches, outside to outside, or less, which would allow you to cultivate normally. I live in tobacco country and used to use a 140 on 42" rows. I never measured as it was set up by previous owner, but the wheels were probably 60". When you cultivate, you want to throw dirt up to your plants and that's why you straddle your row. you stop cultivating when the plants are too tall to fit under the tractor, after about 3 or 4 times thru the field. The first time thru, you go idle in 1st gear with shovels just scratching the soil when the plants are 2-3 inches. Each time thru you can increase your depth and speed. Mark

I really dont know if a Cub can go that narrow.Maybe 40 or 44"? But you can set the wheels at 60".Then only cultivate the row right below your feet.Turn around,go right back in the same wheel tracks and do the adjacent row.

You seem to not understand how to set the tractor. Its like other post said 30in rows will need the wheels set 60 on center. Take a board 6ft or so long and make marks 30in apart. Do three marks and place board in front of thactor by the front wheels making the middle mark centered on the tractor then you will see where the wheels of the tractor run thus meaning 60in on center as thats the way you will set=up for 30in rows.

The Cub wheel width is capable of settings from 40" to 56". You can cultivate at any of these settings, but you would want to be well below the 56" setting in order to comfortably stay between the 60" available between the two outer 30" rows. The wider settings are for the wider row spacings of the "good old days". Cub cultivators and tractors were designed for rows up to 56".

Actually I do, Just want to see if it's practicle to make it narrower than it came from the factory.

Can you modify the front end (cut the axle where the ends slide into the center) and add spacers to the rear wheels to make it narrower than 40 inches?

Can you get a 30" - 46" result from reducing the overall front end with by 10 inches?

The problem with going much narrower on the rear wheels is you'll hit the fenders, drawbar, operator's platform, and transmission housing.

Buy a French Cub. They are narrower and available in the US (hard to find though).

Huh?

I've seen *A* single (ONE) French Cub that was a custom narrowed-up job.

They're not all like that.

That one, they took the right hand axle extension off and bolted the right hand final directly to the transmission housing. Looked like it would tip over if a gentle breeze caught it broadside.

Maybe it is the vineyard Cub i am talking about. One of those special versions are narrowed up.
